MSNCORE.DLL and MSN Messenger Error?
Msncore.dll is a module developed by the Microsoft Corporation for its MSN Messenger versions and the recent Windows Live Messenger application. As it is an external application used for online networking, it is not a critical system component, but rather an add-on.
There are some known instances of viruses and malicious applications been named after certain non-system dll file, and msncore.dll has also fallen victim to this. If you suspect that your msncore.dll file, run virus, spyware and malware scans on your system. If you are an advanced computer user, you can run Windows Internals Process Explorer (available for download from the Internet), as it is possible for a low-level virus to attach itself to a genuine msncore.dll file.
Msncore.dll file errors are very rare and the only errors experienced so far are during rollback from a recent messenger version to an older version and applying new 3rd party skins for MSN Messenger.
If you do encounter a msncore.dll file error when rolling back versions, the best thing to do is to uninstall all versions of MSN Messenger and do a complete new install of the version you want.
Sometimes, if you have accidentally deleted or damaged the required dll file, you will get the following error message when trying to reinstall MSN Messenger:
“Unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because msncore.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”
When this happens, simply remove the MSN program from your program files and do a fresh install.
As for the 3rd party skins, there is not much you can do, except not to download or use 3rd party skins for MSN Messenger. Some 3rd party skins are authorized/certified for use with Microsoft and there are plenty of creative skins provided by Microsoft, which are free to use.
